NVIDIA released DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction today, shipping the upgrade across all GeForce RTX GPUs from the 20-series through the latest 50-series. The update arrives during Gamescom 2026, where NVIDIA also revealed a fresh wave of RTX-enabled titles and expanded its developer toolkit.
The release matters because ray tracing and path tracing remain GPU-intensive. Ray Reconstruction replaces traditional denoisers with an AI model trained on NVIDIA supercomputers, improving image quality in the parts of a ray traced frame where rays were not sampled. The 2nd generation transformer model that powers it delivers noticeably sharper and more stable visuals compared to the first generation.
What DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction Changes
The core upgrade centers on four areas. The new model delivers 35 percent more compute capability and processes 20 percent more parameters than the previous generation while maintaining similar performance. Training on a larger dataset gives the model better image reconstruction awareness. Deeper spatial awareness improves lighting accuracy, temporal stability, and clarity during motion in ray-traced and path-traced content.
Developers also get finer control for temporal accumulation, allowing precise tuning of model response for even better image quality.
To enable Ray Reconstruction in supported games, users open the NVIDIA app, navigate to Graphics settings, select a game, scroll to Driver Settings, click DLSS Override Model Presets, choose Custom, and set Ray Reconstruction to Recommended or Preset F. The upgrade is available now via Early Access in the NVIDIA app, with an official release expected in September.
30 Games Supported at Launch
DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction ships in 30 games and apps, bringing the total RTX ecosystem to over 1,000 titles. The official game list includes 007 First Light, AION 2, ANANTA, Aniimo, Beautiful Light, Black State, CINDER CITY, CONTROL Resonant, Fragmentary Order, Gears of War: E-Day, Silver Palace, and several others.
Support spans the entire RTX family. Every GeForce RTX GPU from the 20-series onward can use Ray Reconstruction, which means owners of older cards still get the upgrade.
Gamescom Announcements
NVIDIA's Gamescom presence extended beyond DLSS 4.5. Several major announcements came during the GeForce On presentation:
007 First Light will launch a path tracing and DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction update on September 15. The game already includes DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, making it one of the most advanced ray tracing showcases available.
Gears of War: E-Day added RTX Mega Geometry, which enhances ray tracing on GeForce RTX GPUs. The title also receives full DLSS 4.5 support.
CONTROL Resonant now comes bundled with select GeForce RTX graphics cards, laptops, and PCs. A new path tracing and DLSS 4.5 gameplay video demonstrates the upgraded visuals.
Nine additional titles received new DLSS 4.5 and RTX trailers during Gamescom: AION 2, ANANTA, Aniimo, Beautiful Light, Black State, CINDER CITY, Fragmentary Order, and Silver Palace. These demonstrate the enhanced image quality and accelerated performance RTX gamers can expect when these titles launch.
RTX Remix Gets DLSS 4.5 Upgrade
RTX Remix, the modding platform that lets users remaster classic games with ray tracing, received an upgrade supporting DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction. The platform now supports over 240 games, with over 100 added in 2026, resulting in over 3.8 million Remix mod downloads to date.
Painkiller RTX received a major update remastering 15 levels. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind RTX mod, first announced at Gamescom 2026, is now in development. Users can add DLSS 4.5 to an existing Remix mod by downloading the latest RTX Remix Runtime and copying the updated files into the base directory.
GeForce Now and Hardware Updates
GeForce Now received several upgrades alongside DLSS 4.5. The cloud gaming service now supports DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, Dynamic Frame Generation, and Ray Reconstruction in the cloud. Steam Controller and Steam Machine support arrives later this year, letting users play with Valve's controller on Steam Deck or Steam Machine via GeForce Now.
Additional GeForce Now upgrades include GOG single sign-on support, Amazon Fire TV Stick availability later this year, the ability to buy subscriptions through Amazon, and official Firefox browser support, which launched last week.
Hardware announcements included the AGON by AOC 5K G-SYNC Pulsar monitor, the first of its kind. New G-SYNC Compatible displays are coming from ASUS and LG. G-SYNC Pulsar controls are now available in the NVIDIA app.
NVIDIA also announced RTX Spark arriving this fall, bringing a new pipeline for developers to build ray tracing into PC games and technology. Leading publishers are already bringing blockbuster titles to the platform.
Why This Matters
Ray tracing has been a flagship NVIDIA feature since its introduction, but adoption has been inconsistent. Many games implemented ray tracing poorly, producing noisy images that hurt performance more than they improved visuals. Ray Reconstruction addresses that problem head-on.
The 2nd generation transformer model is not just an incremental upgrade. It processes more parameters with better temporal stability, which means smoother frames and cleaner images without the flickering that plagued early ray tracing implementations. The fact that it works across all RTX GPUs means the upgrade reaches a much larger installed base than previous generations.
For game developers, finer control over temporal accumulation and the larger training dataset mean they can tune Ray Reconstruction more precisely for their specific titles. For players, the result is better visuals without needing the most expensive hardware.
The broader ecosystem matters too. RTX Remix giving modders access to Ray Reconstruction keeps classic games alive with modern rendering techniques. GeForce Now bringing DLSS 4.5 to the cloud means even hardware-limited players can benefit. RTX Spark promises to make it easier for developers to integrate ray tracing from the ground up rather than bolting it on after the fact.
Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 ran for two hours with Geoff Keighley hosting, featuring trailers and announcements for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past, and dozens of indie titles. NVIDIA's DLSS 4.5 release today ensures that when these games launch, they will have access to the latest ray reconstruction technology from day one.
